How to Play the Mustang in Rock Band 3
The newest edition of the Rock Band franchise features some of the most cutting edges controllers in the history of gaming. The reason for this is the fact that they actively allow an individual to learn how to play a musical instrument. The most sought after devices are the Squier Stratocaster and the Mad Catz Mustang. Between the two controllers one of them, the Squier, is a real guitar. The other, the Mustang, is a guitar simulating controller so well designed that every note or chord that a true guitar might illicit has been duplicated via its one hundred two buttons.
The Mustang is an ambitious controller designed for use with the pro mode of free Rock Band 3. This well appointed controller allows the player to learn real life guitar playing skills and greatly increases the difficulty level of game play. Playing the game via this controller is an exercise in patience. This is not due to its design. The need to be patient is due to the fact that this controller changes the game play mechanics so much that people have to relearn the basic play concepts. There are no longer a handful of colored buttons to work with. Now the player must actually play the notes and chords of the song.
Playing the Mustang controller begins with learning the basics. The free Rock Band 3 screen changes in pro mode. This change incorporates a new system of visual cues designed to work with a pro controller. The chord letter will appear to the left of the fret board while the colored notes two play the chord will stream down the musical highway. There are raised numbers indicating how far from the anchoring finger the series of notes and the chord will be.
When an individual chooses to play the game with the Mustang they must strum the individual strings like a real guitar while pressing the appropriate buttons on the fret board to produce a note or chord. This is no simple task even on easy difficulty. Due to this fact and public demand there are no extraneous notes in pro mode. Whatever the song demands will be required of the player. The end result is that mastering a song on expert difficulty level on pro mode will allow the player to actually learn to play the song at a professional level.
The only draw backs for this controller are the fact that it is not designed to be used outside of game play like the Squier. The usage of buttons might throw off experienced guitarists as well. However, the pluses for this controller outweigh those minuses. This guitar is lower in price than the Squier. It is designed to be a controller and does not confuse itself with a real guitar. Many guitarists that already own their own beloved instrument will prefer this controller since they may not desire to purchase a ‘lesser’ guitar than what they own. Another noteworthy factor is that the Mustang looks pretty badass. The silver buttons running down the length of its neck make it look like a mad scientists experiment went incredibly right. There is nothing else on the market like it and people adore that which is unique.
