There she is! that is the boat for me I thought when I saw a picture of “Peridot” in Yachts & Yachting. A Mustang 30 Deep Keel Sailing Yacht, that looked sleek, low and incredibly fast..
From the images the boat appeared to be in pretty superior condition. I checked the inventory contacted the owner and agreed a price. He asked if I was coming more than to Cowes on the Isle of Wight to view the boat but I mentioned no I would take his word for it that the boat was sound.
By now it was early July and I had to create plans to collect the boat and bring here round to Ramsgate. I was lucky adequate to secure the aid of a friend, Dick Smith, who’s Rear Commodore Sail at the Royal Temple Yacht Club in Ramsgate. Dick had charts for the South Coast so with these and tide charts he put together a sailing plan covering two days. With attainable stops in either Brighton or Eastbourne depending on our progress.

I arranged for a hire auto to take us down to Southampton where we got the ferry across to Cowes on the Isle of Wight. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. There was no cooking facilities so a warm drink whilst sailing would be out of the question. Very first disappointment!

Intermediate lessons normally deals or lays emphasis on on-the-water skills required for bareboat chartering. It also checks or masters the abilities that had been taught in simple cruising courses. Advanced lessons
Advanced lessons are directed to make one capable skipper who can crew an 8-15 meter cruise.
I checked her more than a small 6 berth interior made up of two quarter berths beneath the cockpit, two narrow settee berths and a double up forward. My thoughts was having a go at me: Second disappointment. There had been no interior lights, so it was an excellent issue I brought a torch with me. Instruments consisted of Log and Water Speed, Wind Speed and Path as nicely as a compass. There was, thank god, a handheld GPS plus a fixed VHF radio. A number of warps, sheets, fenders and an anchor was all about it. Conclusion: third disappointment.
