The Connection Between Ford And Hollywood
Ford is one of America’s most iconic and most popular nameplates. The company was launched in 1903 and it’s been a force to be reckoned ever since. The company has been a prominent part of American history ever since the company revolutionized the assembly line process for the automotive industry. Due to its popularity and wide appeal, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the brand has made plenty of appearances in numerous Hollywood flicks.
Lots of Ford vehicles have made notable appearances on the small screen. The affordable and dependable Fusion has made an appearance on the now cancelled teen hit “The OC” on the Fox network. The Fusion is an engaging family sedan that offers excellent gas mileage and the innovative and intuitive Sync system. Best of all, it’s within reach for the average American with an estimated base cost of around $20k. Jennifer Garner aka agent Sidney Bristow on the hit show Alias has been seen driving a Ford Escape on the series. The Escape is a compact crossover SUV with a comfortable interior, impressive crash test results and an optional V6 engine which outputs 240 hp. The Escape is priced at around the $21k range and if it’s good enough for a secret agent then it’s good enough for us.
The biggest star by far in the company’s lineup is the Ford Mustang. This vehicle has made over 500 television and movie appearances. It has made appearances in these classic flicks; “I am Legend”, “Gone In Sixty Seconds” and “Diamonds Are Forever”. The Mustang made itsinitial movie debut in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”. Ford provided the production with a big selection of vehicles to use including the Thunderbird, which was used as the CIA agents’ cars and the Lincoln Continental which ends up destroyed.
One of the most famous Mustang appearances was in the classic film “Bullitt” featuring Steve McQueen. The star of the show was a 1968 Mustang GT which stole the scene with an thrilling and exciting car chase. Two Mustang GT’s and two Dodge Chargers were used in the famous scene. One of the auto’s most recent impressive appearances is in the huge hit “I Am Legend”. In this flick Will Smith is one of the last people left on the planet and he can be seen hunting deer in a gorgeous red Mustang. The Expedition and Escape also made appearances in the flick. The 2010 Mustang is priced at around $21k and is available as either a V6 or V8 engine.
It’s easy to see why Ford is such an integral part of American history and as a result it makes sense that the vehicles would make frequent appearances in legendary movies. Ford vehicles are built in America, built tough and most of all practical and attainable for the average consumer. We’ll be seeing Ford cars for a long time to come in the movies and in real life.
