Car Companies Are Setting Up Shop In Mexico
If you were in charge of a major automotive company, where would you set up a factory or plant?
More and more companies are setting up shop in Mexico. It is not new that Mexico is becoming more of a hub for the assembly of cars for sale in North America. In 1994 the country was going through a period of major economic growth and this helped to stimulate car sales there. Soon car companies based in Europe like Porsche, Peugeot and Mercedes-Benz and Asia like Honda built plants in Mexico to booster their presence in North America and especially the United States.
A few years ago car companies were looking for locations where cars could be produced in a cost effective manner. They settled on China and soon just about every auto maker whether from Europe, Asia or the United States had plants in China and joint ventures with Chinese auto companies for the construction of automobiles.
Well, the economy has turned once again. Nowadays it is a lot more expensive to build a car in China. Moreover, there is growing uncertainty concerning the cost of production logistical problems and questions over intellectual property protection. All of these issues have made auto makers who are involved in China to again look for a cheaper location with less baggage where they can build their cars. That location is Mexico.
Of course, one of the major reasons why Mexico is experiencing an upsurge in the amount of foreign auto plants is its proximity to the United States. A total of 2.3 million cars were built in Mexico in 2010 which is a record. In fact, now Mexico is ranked ninth among countries with the largest output of vehicles. And there is still more. According to a 2009 Alix Partners Report, Mexico is looked at as a friendlier site than China and India for world auto manufacturers to make their cars when compared to the U.S. This is due to the fact that Mexico’s exchange rate is more favorable and Mexico has free-trade status with the United States.
And there is one more point to consider. Many companies that build parts are also moving to Mexico in order to boost sales. They can supply parts easily and quickly to auto makers who are locating there. Many big companies are planning to build more plants in Mexico. Mccoy Mills Ford dealer serves Fullerton with our Fullerton Ford Dealerships.
Honda said that it will build an $800 million assembly plant in Mexico that will produce subcompact vehicles for the Mexican and North American markets. The plant will be ready for production in 2014. deals can be found at McCoy Mills Ford, a Fullerton dealership serving Orange County.
We will probably see many more car companies build factories in Mexico in the future. Looking for Ford cars in Orange County? Check out Ford Anaheim for excellent deals.
